SEOs on Last.fm

“Your musical compatibility is Optimised”

Last.fm logo

If you’re obsessed with music as much as you’re obsessed with the SEO industry then hopefully you’ll like this post…

For those unfamiliar with Last.fm, it’s a service that “scrobbles” your plays from your devices, working with all the usual suspects: Windows Media Player, iTunes, Winamp, Spotify… a full list (of apparently 600!) can be found here.

After befriending a few SEOs via my profile, I thought I’d put together a list of SEOs who actively use the service!

Want your profile added to this list?

If you’d like to be added to the list, please tweet me, email me or leave a comment below. Here’s the criteria though:

  • You must work in SEO (or at least something closely related: digital marketing, inbound marketing, etc.),
  • Your profile must’ve seen some activity within the last 30 days,
  • Both individual and agency profiles are welcome (e.g. if the latter is an office playlist).

I’m happy to add everyone/anyone who gets in touch, but given the industry that we operate in, if it seems like you’re only doing it to get the link(s) then I might still say no…

Anyway, here we go… Individuals first (alphabetical by surname), then Agencies. Enjoy…!

What Video Games Do SEOs Like? A Superboss-sized Survey!

Intro from Steve: Although I’m a big advocate of guest blogging, I told myself I probably wouldn’t host guest posts on SEOno. But after chatting to Emma Barnes about a potential post, I couldn’t resist. Emma is a Data Analyst at Branded3 and runs her own blog about video games called Gaming Memoirs. I’m extremely lucky to have such an awesome post as my first guest post and – as you’ll see below – Emma put A LOT of time into this. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Hello Faithful readers of SEOno – I’m Emma, who Steve has kindly let write all over his blog.

Likelihood is, if you’re reading this – you work in the SEO industry, hooray! So do I. I am one of those rare people that fits into the middle part of this Venn Diagram:

Stuck in the middle with me

How To Insult Your Customers In Just 2 Emails

Gin & Tonic imageI had a really frustrating experience with an online store during the run-up to Christmas while buying a gift for my better half. I usually try to stick to sites I’m used to (Play.com, Amazon, etc.) and this reminded me why…

I wanted to buy this gin gift set from The Whisky Exchange (oh yes, those are nofollow links – they ain’t getting no SEO love from me!) and I hoped/assumed that the process would be pretty painless. In fact, given their 9.7 out of 10 score on Trustpilot, I imagine that this is the process that the vast majority of their customers go through:

  1. Place order
  2. Receive an automated email saying that “your order… will be despatched shortly”
  3. Receive order
  4. Receive another automated email, this time saying that they hope I’m “enjoying [my] drinks” and asking me to leave feedback on Trustpilot (an independent review site)

Well… my experience was different.

Interview with Ed Fry about Inbound.org

Inbound.org logoBack in June, I interviewed Rand Fishkin about Inbound.org, an Inbound Marketing community that calls itself the “Hacker News for Marketers.” The site was about four months old at the time of the interview, as it had officially launched in February this year.

Roll on six months and the site has seen some significant changes: Ed Fry (@edfryed) was hired as the site’s General Manager in September and a redesign of the website was released towards the end of October.

The site’s nearing its first birthday and Ed and co. have some big ambitions for the site for 2013 – see Ed’s The Future of Inbound.org slides and the related submission/Discussion page (which itself links off to eight other Discussions which are covered in the slides) to find out more.

I recently approached Ed asking if I could carry out an interview – sort of as a follow-up to the one with Rand in June – and he happily obliged. Below we cover his recruitment, the redesign, what’s new, what’s in store in 2013 and more…

432 Mind-Blowing Article Titles You Won’t Believe Are By Cracked.com

Mind blown imageFile this under: silly…

I’m a massive, massive fan of Cracked.com – I have been for years. As an online marketer, I’ve always been interested – with sites like these – about how they go about their digital strategy. Given the types of titles Cracked.com tend to use for their regular articles, it’s quite clear that for them it’s all about encouraging click-through rate (a.k.a. the clickbait), particularly from social media sites.

They’re a fan of lists, so they often start with a number. Over the last few years, I started to notice another trend… In just the last month alone we’ve seen:

…And…
