Roger expected that pressing this button would return him to the present day – but instead, he arrived two months ahead. It was July 2018, and as Roger emerged he realised that he was in the Washington State Convention Center.
He was at MozCon!
He recognised individuals in the crowds, a mix of Moz employees and figureheads in the SEO industry. Before he could fully get his bearings, a man approached him with arms stretched.
“Roger!” he said. It was Steve Morgan.
“Steve!” Roger replied. “What are you doing here?”
“Moz has done so much for me during my SEO career,” Steve explained. “In fact I’ve wanted to come here for years. In the last 9 to 10 years I’ve watched Whiteboard Fridays, contributed to YouMoz, written for the main Moz Blog, bought Moz merch, been a Moz PRO member, and that’s not all! I’ve used Moz Local, shared Moz’s SEO resources, advocated Moz to others, talked to Rand and other Mozzers via Twitter and email… So attending MozCon was a wonderful inevitability. I love this brand and wanted to show my support, because they’ve supported me massively. That’s why I wanted to come here.”
Roger smiled. As he and Steve talked, and with everyone else busy networking in the venue’s hallways, no one noticed the present-day Dr Pete (or at least someone who looked like him) step into the time machine, which subsequently disappeared. Where did he go? No one was sure…
…Although Roger might have an idea.
